Bill Number: SJR 13
Bill Description: Proposing a constitutional amendment to repeal the constitutional provision providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage
Author: Coleman (D-Houston)
Related Bills: HJR 34
Analysis: This proposed amendment to the Texas constitution would repeal the 2005 amendment against same-sex marriage.
Position: Secular Texas believes the government should treat all people equally under the law. The stance against same-sex marriage, while nominally is built on the disproven argument that it undermines family values, is at heart a religious superstition being enforced through law.
